Cubicle Haiku Archive - WORK

CUBICLE HAIKU
work

Carpal Tunnel Ache
A secretary's struggle
Crippled hands have I

(Type) Look behind you.
Is it The Man? (Type) Lurking,
waiting to fire you.

sixes galore, race
across the screen. eyes will close,
head tilts. * head jerks * woops.

Willing the feet to
Go where you don't want to go
Work Work Work Work Work

Doing Board minutes...
I hate this part of my job.
Damn that boss of mine.

Folks talking--take notes!
Such mindless record-keeping.
Why have a brain 'tall?

Power Shelving Days
Seemed to vanish forever
Like dreams of retail

Work seems much better
when bless-ed with brilliant friends
who bestow email

this time temp means just
for one week. answer the phone
hello? voice mail?? bye.

lunch RSVPs
keep changing on me so I
must call Kitchen Door

i got a god damn promotion.
-abandon Haiku?
along with promotion-yes.

I want to design
offices so that bean bag
chairs are preferred here

answering the phones
going through the invoices
emailing Katie

maybe happy hour
should be at eight so that we
can start the day right

invoices come in
cross my desk and out again
it's been a fun day

emails and voice mails.
this is the work that I do:
I write and reply.

And I do that too
work should not take precedence
over friends and art

Must process orders.
Can't take break for friends or foes
Only cigarettes

on today:
alice makes me type
names and numbers galore
sam, tracy lunch

It is not my fault
on the heels of holiday
month end comes too soon

two more stacks of mail
sisyphus pushes the stone
thought i was caught up

he's turbo at work
senior order specialist
who will not email

where's my winter coat?
where is summer so damn cold?
hiring freeze dot com

Balance sheet balanced
Now I can take a lunch break
cigarette or not?

Joe calls and we sigh
as globes are ordered and we
blame absent Leigh'R

close to sleep myself
I've been in with auditors
mind numbing process

Joe, no longer
do I want to be
dispatcher of reporters

Marijuana
absentee Tonya
leaving him up to his ears
in dopes and in plants

month end is over
i now must traverse downtown
making deposits....

working pagemaker
without manual or clue --
how did I get here?
